Vermont Governor Phil Scott has declared a state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic. This action includes limiting the size of public gatherings.

In response, VFDA is rescheduling some of our spring training sessions. Contact VFDA if you have any questions at 802-223-7750.

Licensing, Certification and Training Updates

Due to the unprecedented COVID-19 restrictions for travel and personal interaction, the 12-month requirement for completing the skills assessment portion of the Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) is being suspended until August 1, 2020 for anyone who passed their CETP exam after March 1, 2019. For example, if a student passed a CETP exam on April 15, 2019, the student now has until August 1, 2020 to complete the skills assessment in order to receive certification.

The Vermont Commissioner of Public Safety and the Division of Fire Safety (DFS) have extended the deadline for renewals of Certificate of Fitness certifications 180 days beyond their effective expiration date. This includes Certified Propane and Natural Gas Technicians and Certified Oilheat Technicians. If your Vermont Certificate of Fitness expires in April or later this summer, you have until September 30 to get your continuing education credits and submit for a renewal.

What about license renewals for plumbers and electricians?

A law has to pass in Montpelier for this to happen. There is legislative language that would offer a similar grace period for plumbers and electricians— but it is not law yet.
