Matt Cota is the Executive Director of the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association.
Prior to joining VFDA in 2007, Cota worked as a journalist and school teacher in Santa Barbara, California. Cota earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from California State University Northridge and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Communication from The George Washington University.
Cota served for three years as a Planning Commissioner in the town of Plainfield, Vermont and is currently the Vice-Chair of the South Burlington Development Review Board (DRB). Cota also serves on numerous energy related boards, including the New England Fuel Institute, the Petroleum Marketers Association of America, the Vermont Petroleum Cleanup Fund Advisory Committee, and the Vermont Home Energy Assistance Task Force.
In 2012, Cota received an Environmental Excellence Award from Governor Shumlin for promoting clean and renewable oilheat policies in Vermont. Cota was also named “Financial Services Champion of the Year” in 2009 by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Cota is a frequent guest speaker on the emergence of biofuels in home heating at the University Vermont and a contributing author of “Bioenergy” published by Academic Press.
Cota grew up in Windham County and attended schools in Westminster, Bellows Falls, and Saxtons River.
